What’s Going On?
There hasn’t been a lot of activity on my blog recently so you might wonder, “What’s going on?” Therefore, I thought I’d post a status update. Since January, I’ve been dealing with 2 issues that have kept me from doing photography and blog writing.
The First Issue
The first issue is health related. No worries though, I’m in good health. However, I did have problems with my knees that had to be addressed. In late January, I had a total knee replacement of my left knee. Figuring a matched set would be nice I had a total knee replacement of my right knee in late July.
Needless to say, one’s mobility is hampered during the rehab periods. But my physical therapy is proceeding nicely and I hope to be out shooting again in a few months. Additionally, during the initial stages of rehab sitting at the computer for long periods is difficult and very uncomfortable which hampers blog writing. I know my posts look like I just threw something together but in reality it can be a long process.
There was brief period in the month before the second surgery where I was able to get out to go shooting. However, I didn’t get anything shots that I really liked. The brief window of opportunity was hampered by the second issue.
The Second Issue
The second issue is one that is completely out of my control; the weather. In June we had a very warm temperatures and lots of thunderstorms so you had to pick your opportunities very judiciously. Since then, it has changed from “very warm” to just plain “HOT!” Long range forecasts of temperatures of between 100⁰F and 103⁰F are common. Throw in the humidity and things are just oppressive out there. There’s no way I would think about lugging camera gear around in those conditions. Call me a wimp but I’m staying inside with the A/C!
So What’s The Plan?
When you can’t go out to shoot what you want what do you do? The obvious answer is to stay inside and shoot what you can. Although still life photography and such isn’t one of my favorite things it is something I can do to keep active. So I’ll give that a go and if I come up with something I like I’ll post it. Wish me good luck.
I mentioned that my June outing didn’t produce any images I really like. However, they were fantastic scouting excursions. Based on what I saw and some inspiration from my friend, Hali Sowle, I’m planning a “photo project” or two. I especially excited about one in the Houston Medical Center. It’s a great area for both architectural and street photography. I think it will be fun, both in doing the planning and actually getting out to shoot.
Keep In Touch
So that’s what’s going on. Although I may be offline for a bit, I’m still around. Drop me a line if you have any questions or suggestions. I’d love to hear from you.
