Price Watch – Don’t Overpay For Your Camera Gear

Money – Mike Schaffner

Let’s face it; camera gear is expensive. We all save up for that special piece of gear we wanted until we finally go ahead and make the buy. Then we start wondering, “Did I get the best deal? Did I overpay?” Fortunately, price watch (PW) sites can help us get the best deal and save money. I’ve spent a lot of time carefully selecting my gear to get exactly what I determined  was best for me. As much as I enjoy that gear I don’t enjoy overpaying for it.

As a Canon shooter, I’ve used CanonPriceWatch.com a number of times over the past few years and saved money buying from recognized and authorized Canon dealers with full US warranties. The good news is that the PW sites are free to use; they make their money on referral payments from the sellers. The PW sites aren’t limited to just Canon gear. All of you Fuji, Nikon and Sony shooters can get in on the savings too!

What the Price Watch Sites Do

The PW sites list “street prices” on most cameras and lenses so you can see if you’re getting a good deal. In addition to cameras and lenses they also track deals on a limited array of other products such as Manfrotto tripods, Adobe software etc. Some of their deals are exclusive to PW subscribers.

The feature that I like the most is being able to set price alerts. When I’m looking for a new piece of gear but want to wait for a good deal I simply set up a price  alert. The alert notifies me when there is a deal at or below the price level I’ve set. Using this I’ve saved significantly on lenses and haven’t paid full-price for the Adobe Creative Cloud Photography Plan in years.

The Price Watch Sites By Brand

They’ve expanded beyond just Canon and now have other sites for the other major brands.  Check them out.

Disclosure: I am not affiliated with any of the PW sites in any way. I have not received any incentive (monetary or otherwise) to promote these sites. Likewise, I am not making any guarantee of accuracy or validity regarding the information on these sites. I have saved money using CanonPriceWatch.com website so I’m providing this as a public service since I assume you want to save money too.
