Preserving Wildlife Habitat – Jeff’s Crazy Idea

Preserving wildlife habitat is important. Fortunately, my friend, Jeff Hodges has a crazy idea about what we can all do to help in this cause. Jeff is an accomplished wildlife and landscape photographer. As with most wildlife and landscape photographers, Jeff has a love of the outdoors. He also understands the fragility of wildlife habitat and the threats it is facing. That is not all that unusual as most wildlife and landscape photographers implicitly understand this.

The big difference with Jeff is that he is doing something about it. On his own he has started removing trash and litter from our green spaces. He’s become a Texas Master Naturalist and is changing the landscaping at his home to natural plants and removing invasive species that we all seem to have. He’s also educating us through his YouTube Channel about what we can do to as individuals to help improve the wildlife habitat and our environment.

The Crazy Idea – The Video

In case you’re wondering, here is a recent video describing his crazy idea and what he is trying to accomplish.

When you hear Jeff explain, his “crazy idea” doesn’t seem all that crazy after all. So, please help support Jeff’s actions by subscribing to his YouTube Channel.

Light The “Candle”

Jeff realizes that his individual actions, while positive in nature, won’t have a major impact on improving wildlife habitat. However, he also realizes that you do what you can, rather than just accepting your powerlessness. He isn’t one to sit on the sidelines moaning there is nothing he can do. Because of this, he picks up trash, he lives in an environmentally sound way as best he can, and through his example, he encourages us to take action.

Taking action is the most important part. Do something! Do whatever you can. It’s as simple as that.

Yet it is far better to light the candle than to curse the darkness.

The Power Of Numbers

Perhaps the most important part of Jeff’s action is that it spurs us to also take active steps, small as they may be. Significantly, it is the collective impact of all these small efforts that can result in change for the better. As Chinese philosopher, Lao Tzu said, “Great acts are made up of small deeds.”

We can’t wait for some “magic pill” to fix everything. It takes action. Not just by a few but by all of us. Action no matter how small or insignificant is important. When combined with the actions of others, the effect is multiplied.

What You Can Do

There are a number of simple things you can do. They’re simple and easy.

  1. Check out Jeff’s YouTube Channel and subscribe!
  2. Once you subscribe, promote it to others. For example, encourage others through your Facebook and Twitter accounts. Tell your friends and family. As Mother Teresa said, “I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples.”
  3. If you are a photographer, consider joining an organization like Nature First – The Alliance For Responsible Nature Photography.
  4. Lastly, commit to some simple action. “Light the candle” and “Cast a stone”. Do something!
