Old Farmhouse
The first photo stop on my recent road trip was an old farmhouse. Although in very poor condition, the early morning sun highlighted its character. I bet that “back in the day” it was a very nice house; the kind of house that was a welcome sight when you returned home. It’s the kind of house that you think of as “home”. Because of this, I sense it was a successful farm. It wasn’t necessarily a rich one, but likely successful enough that someone would be happy to raise a family there.
Lots of Questions, No Answers
Looking at this old farmhouse a lot of questions come to mind. Who lived here? Where did they go? Why did they leave? What was it like to live there? If they could come back and see it now, what would they think of it? Why was this just left abandoned?
Lots of questions. Hopefully, someone knows some or all of the answers. However, we are left unsatisfied and wondering. Abandoned buildings with character are an amazing site to explore. They engage our mind any yet frustrated us with all those unanswered questions. As a result, it’s the stories we write in our imagination that fuels our interest and spurs us on to find more such sites. Perhaps, the most significant unanswered question we have is, when I’m long gone and some stranger sees my home and the thing I’ve left behind, what will they wonder and think of me?
This really seems to have been a thriving farm. I say this because the old farmhouse is a nice size and there are a number of outbuildings. The especially interesting item is the old windmill. Despite all this, it now sits abandoned, left to slowly decay.
