6th Street In Austin

6th Street in Austin, Texas is a historic entertainment district and nightlife hub. It’s known for its live music, bars, clubs, and restaurants. So, it’s a great place for street photography. I had the opportunity to briefly visit 6th Street in mid-March. At that time SXSW (South By Southwest), an annual conglomeration of parallel film, interactive media, and music festivals and conferences was taking place in Austin. Some of the SXSW events take place in the 6th Street venues. This only adds to the potential for street photography. Even though I was there mid-day there were plenty of people and live music events going on to make it interesting.

– Keep Austin Weird

“Keep Austin Weird” is the unofficial slogan of Austin, Texas. It celebrates the city’s unique and quirky culture, encouraging residents and visitors to embrace its unconventional spirit. The 6th Street area is the epitome of that spirit. I first noticed it when I saw these two women and their choice of footwear. Now, there’s nothing wrong in particular with their choice, I’m all for dressing as you please. I do however, consider it a bold choice when the temperature is about 77°F (25°C)!

– Giving Stage Directions

Walking by one nightclub open to the street I noticed this one person seemingly giving stage directions to the guitar player. I couldn’t see the musician’s face but his posture appeared to be saying he wasn’t buying any of it.

As I’ve said before if you want to convert sinners you have to hang out where the sinners do. So I suspect that 6th Street is prime hunting territory.

Competing with the soul-savers were the barkers in the many music clubs and bars. 6th Street appears to be a place open to all. No telling who had the most success but I have my suspicions.

This was taken a few blocks from the 6th Street area and doesn’t exactly fit the normal definition of street photography. But, I was out on the street, saw the sign, it got my attention, so here it is.
